American Idol: Kree Harrison and Candice Glover Make it to the Finals

Posted on

Next week, Kree Harrison and Candice Glover are going to battle it out for the ultimate title in music – the winner of American Idol. I was honestly shocked to see Angie Miller go home tonight. As much as I hate to say this, but after last night’s performances, the odds of Kree making it to the finale seemed dismal. She was even shocked, and if you look closely, you can see Kree mouth ‘holy shit’ several times after Angie’s elimination.

Here are two of the best performances from last night. Team Kree for the win!

Rihanna – Stay (Lisa Lavie Cover)

Here is yet another flawless cover, performed by none other than Lisa Lavie. I’m a huge fan of hers, and anything she touches (erm – sings) turns to gold.

Sorry to all you Rihanna fans, but there is something about her voice that is extremely annoying. It’s actually unpleasant to the ears. Thank god she has a remarkable team behind her to mask that glaring flaw that is known as her voice.

All hail Ms. Lavie, but before you do, check out her flawless cover of Stay.

Justin Timberlake – Mirrors (Jake Barker Cover)

I’m obsessed with JT’s latest single, Mirrors. It’s actually my favourite song he’s ever done. The entire 20/20 Experience album is a pleasant surprise, and I’m liking each song more and more I listen to it.

I’ve been following Jake Barker for years, and this dude is definitely talented. And there is no denying the JT vibe you get when he sings. While he does a great job on this cover vocally, the video is beyond cheesy, especially the end. Still a huge fan, Mr. Barker!

Kree Harrison – Crying (Top 10 Performance)

Last night, the top 10 had the entire catalogue of American Idol performances from previous winners, including songs they performed while competing on the show. Kree Harrison chose to sing Carrie Underwood’s rendition of Crying, originally sung by Roy Orbison. I think she did a phenomenal job, and while Angie Miller is the clear favourite, Kree is, in my opinion, the underdog, and the one to watch out for in the competition.

Check out her performance of Crying below (skip to 0:21 to get past the annoying American Idol app)!

Zoanette Johnson – Circle of Life

So last night’s American Idol performances from the girls were uninspired, boring, and they simply sucked. Except for one girl – Zoanette Johnson.

She simply has everything going for her. The look. The voice. The whole package. And she seems genuine about it all. When I heard the first words come out of her mouth as she started to sing, I immediately thought to myself, “THE LION KING!!!”.

Check out the amazing performance of Zoanette Johnson’s rendition of Circle of Life below!

Starbucks Pick of the Week: Serena Ryder – What I Wouldn’t Do

I’ve been a huge fan of Serena Ryder ever since I first heard Weak In the Knees several years ago. It’s such an incredibly sad song, yet you just can’t stop listening to it. So when Ryder finally gets recognition and radio play with Stompa, it is truly an exciting time for Canadian artists. And they even play Stompa on 102.1 the Edge!

Anyways, Starbucks has released their Pick of the Week and it’s Serena Ryders’ What I Wouldn’t Do. I also picked up a couple of codes for the iOS app Living Earth. It appears to be a clock and weather app, which is pretty cool (and it’s free!).

Remember to comment on which code you’ve used, because they can only be redeemed once. Thanks!

The Great Gatsby – Official Trailer #2

So I’m super psyched about seeing one of my all-time favourite books, The Great Gatsby (Fahrenheit 451 being my other), being turned in a big budget movie (unlike the Mia Farrow version). You know what would be totally amazing? If they chose Lana Del Rey’s National Anthem to be a part – any part – of the film. Everything about it oozes The Great Gatsby, especially the theme of Old Money and New Money.

If you haven’t seen the second trailer (or Del Rey’s song), check both of them out below!

American Idol: Angela Miller – You Set Me Free

So this is what I like to call a spectacular performance. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Angela Miller is going to be in the Top 3, if not the winner of this years American Idol, based on this performance alone. The only fear I have is she set the bar too high and all future performances aren’t going to be good enough, as the judges will constantly compare it to this performance.

Check out You Set Me Free below!

Starbucks Pick of the Week: Ben Harper with Charlie Musselwhite – You Found Another Love (I Lost Another Friend)

Other than the ridiculously long title, here’s another free track to download, courtesy of Starbucks and iTunes. The artists are Ben Harper and Charlie Musslewhite, while the track is titled You Found Another Love (I Lost Another Friend). Please comment on which code you’ve used, since they can only be redeemed once. Enjoy!
